Municipal Commercial Vehicle Licence Program - Licence Plate Decals

Any vehicle using municipal roads and operating for commercial purposes within the District of Sechelt must annually purchase and display a commercial vehicle licence plate decal.

That is, any vehicle used by any person upon any highway (municipal road) that is not an arterial highway, which is a commercial vehicle as defined by and licensed under the Commercial Transport Act, and any vehicle not so licensed but which is used for the collection and/or delivery of merchandise or other commodity in the ordinary course of a business undertaking, must display upon the vehicle a valid commercial vehicle licence decal issued for that vehicle. A commercial vehicle could be described as pizza delivery car, a taxi, a construction vehicle or a delivery van, for example.

To obtain a commercial vehicle licence decal the owner or operator must apply in person at the District of Sechelt office with the current registration papers for the vehicle. The commercial vehicle licence decal expires annually on December 31st. Decals purchased in November or December are valid for the following year.

The Municipal Commercial Vehicle Licensing legislation is in the Local Government Act and the fees are set by the Province. For more information, please see the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM)'s webpage.

The 2010 licence fees for a vehicle of gross vehicle weight (GVW):

  • not exceeding 2,800 kg $25.00
  • from 2,801 kg to 11,800 kg $30.00
