Sechelt Council and Committee Procedures Changing Sechelt – A Committee of the Whole structure will replace the four previously established District of Sechelt Standing Committees, beginning in 2009. The first Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2009, at 1:00pm, in the Community Meeting Room. At this meeting, the Committee will review, among other things, proposed amendments to the District’s Procedure Bylaw to allow for this and other procedural changes. The on-going schedule for Committee of the Whole Meetings will be 1:00pm on the first and third Wednesday of each month. All members of Council are members of Committee of the Whole and can participate in debate and pass recommendations, which are then referred to Council for consideration. The Committee of the Whole will replace the Finance, Planning & Economic Development, Recreation Culture & Community Relations, and Infrastructure Environment & Community Services Committees. Previously, each of these Committees met on a monthly basis. Another proposed change will see Regular Council Meetings convening at 7:00pm, rather than 7:30pm, effective January 21, 2009. When necessary, closed meetings of Council will follow adjournment of the Regular Council meeting. All Regular Council and Committee meetings are open to the public and held in the Community Meeting Room, on the first floor of the Sechelt Library Building, (5797 Cowrie Street, Sechelt). Agendas for meetings are posted the Friday before the meeting date, on www.sechelt.ca. -30- FOR INFORMATION CONTACT: Connie Jordison |
