District Staff Reacts to Weekend Storm Damage SECHELT – Staff of Sechelt’s Public Works, Parks and Building Inspection Departments worked through the weekend of February 4/5, 2006, to address flood damage in the Davis Bay area, caused by a severe storm.
In cooperation with a host of others, District staff pumped water away from Highway 101 and five flooded residential properties on the east side of the highway. District Staff also assisted with sandbagging along the Davis Bay section of the highway, to prevent further flooding. The flooded section of the Highway, between Whitaker Road and Davis Bay Road was closed for a portion of both days. Residents of the five flooded properties were evacuated by 12 noon on February 4 th. A District Building Inspector inspected the five properties during the morning hours of February 5 th. The structures were deemed safe and the residents were advised they could return to their homes at 12noon that day.
The District would like to express thanks to the Sunshine Coast Emergency Preparedness Program staff and volunteers, the Sechelt Volunteer Fire Department, Ministry of Transportation staff, the SCRD, BC Hydro, Capilano Roads, the Bella Beach Hotel and the community volunteers who assisted in addressing the storm threats and damage safely and quickly. -30- FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, CONTACT: Connie Jordison |
