Policy

The Traffic Fine Review Committee must comply with District of Sechelt Traffic Fine Revenue Policy which is available for download from the Sechelt Public Document Library.

This policy states that traffic fine funds can be used Coastwide for programs such as:

  • care for victims of crime
  • reduce traffic fatalities and education
  • groups dedicated to working with youth and/or dedicated to reducing the level of crime reduction of property damage from vandalism (youth issues)
  • increase police abilities to deal with problems with drugs
  • increase community awareness of criminal activity

Guidelines For Allocation Of Funds

Here are some guidelines used by the Traffic Fine Revenue Review Committee when reviewing Grant Applications and recommending disbursement of traffic fine revenue to the District of Sechelt Committee of the Whole.

  • The Province of British Columbia provides these funds with the expectation municipalities will utilize the traffic fine revenue funds in areas of policing, crime prevention and other initiatives to make our communities safer.  Instructions were received from the Ministry that the funds are not to be used for increasing policing strength.
  • The Traffic Fine Revenues are distributed to those municipalities who pay for policing costs.   We do not receive the same amount each year.
  • The amount we receive varies as it is based on a formula factoring Sechelt policing costs with total municipal policing cost
  • Traffic Fine Revenue funds are not guaranteed and may be discontinued by the Province of British Columbia anytime.

Reporting Requirements

For accountability purposes, all District of Sechelt grant recipients are required to complete an Annual Report on Grant Funding or they may be ineligible for future grants from the District of Sechelt.   To simplify this process an Annual Report on Grant Funding Form is available for download.
